Brooklyn has long been revered as an international city – a place where you can come to see the world! Over time its rich history has grown abundant through the convergence of people and cultures, artistic movements, the creation of grassroots organizations, and the development of ‘Mom & Pop’ businesses. Brooklyn communities are full of great stories and Neighborhood Beat was created to tell them.
Begun in 2006 with the support of the Borough President and produced in collaboration with Booklynites, the Neighborhood Beat series strives to introduce “Brooklyn to Brooklyn” by encouraging viewers to become tourists at home and empowering residents to tell their story through the medium of television. The series highlights historical information, culture, food, small businesses and an eclectic mix of local personalities and organizations.
Current featured neighborhoods include Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, Brownsville, East New York, Canarsie, Flatlands, DUMBO, Sheepshead Bay, Coney Island, Flatbush, East Flatbush, Red Hook, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Sunset Park, Brooklyn Heights, and Park Slope. We are presenly in the works for our new Crown Heights series, broadcasting in January 2009.
