BRICstudio Spring Intern

See the hottest new theater, dance and music coming out of Brooklyn while receiving hands on experience in performing arts marketing, audience development, theater production, and program coordination.

Overview

BRICstudio seeks an intern for the spring semester to assist with production and marketing of our 2009 Spring Season. Reporting directly to the BRICstudio Manager, you will provide direct support for the BRIClab artist residency and commissioning program, co-presentations with local cultural institutions, and our subsidized rentals program for non venue-based artists and ensembles. Tasks may include:

  • Prepare e-blasts, mailings, and special ticket offers
  • Expand BRICstudio presence on online networking sites (MySpace, Facebook, etc.)
  • Research & expand blog & press lists
  • Organize and maintain season archives and renter databases
  • Help plan season events and work-in-progress presentations for resident artists
  • Organize audience development programs with local universities & groups
  • Document residencies through artist interviews, online journals, newsletter articles, participant evaluations, and more! (Pitch us YOUR ideas.)
  • Ongoing office work

Commitment

January–May 2009. Interns should be able to commit 12-16 hours per week. Attendance at select performances (Thursday & Saturday evenings, March through May) is a plus. Theater is located in Downtown/Fort Greene, Brooklyn – a short ride from Manhattan and accessible by most express trains. Internships are unpaid, but college credit is available. Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is passionate about the arts, detail-oriented, and a team player who can wear many hats at once. Familiarity with Microsoft Office is a must. Students pursuing a bachelors or graduate degree in performing arts administration, theater or dance production, or non-profit management are strongly encouraged to apply.

Freelance Master Control Technician:

Job Description: This person is responsible for quality control of four channels; loading programs for playback; creating tape run times; troubleshooting; and maintaining the playback transmission log. Freelancers are responsible for weekend, sick days and vacation coverage. Availability to work flexible hours essential. This is an hourly position: $12/hour. This position is part of the NABET-CWA collective bargaining unit at BCAT. The selected candidate will be or will become a member of NABET-CWA.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and adjusting video and audio levels
  • Digitizing promo's and public service announcements for server playback (Seachange)
  • Monitoring and updating (up-next menu) Scala
  • Process all programs for automated playback (Sundance)
  • Transmit live programs when necessary
  • Monitor and update college radio programs.

Freelance Shooters

Job Description: Brooklyn Community Access Television is looking to add to its roster of freelance DV camera operators. If you have experience shooting ENG style news, sports, or documentary footage then we want to see a sample of your work!

Skills Requirements: Must have the ability to work solo in the field, or with a producer/reporter and production team. Must also be comfortable managing audio in the camera/on the fly using the Cannon XL-1s and standard wireless lav. systems. Please have a current driver's license and a flexible schedule. Freelance TV Reporters

Job Description: Seeking freelance, on-camera reporters for Brooklyn-based bi-weekly news magazine, Brooklyn Review.

Reporters are responsible for generating story ideas, working with a camera person in the field to execute the story and editing their packages on AVID.

We are looking for reporters with a passion for storytelling, personality and the ability to provide in depth, insightful coverage of the issues facing the borough of Brooklyn. Our style is more NPR than NBC.

Reporters are paid on a per package basis, with packages ranging in length from 3-6 minutes.

Seasonal Membership Coordinator

A program of BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn, Celebrate Brooklyn! is the borough’s premiere summer-long performing arts festival presenting a culturally-diverse season of music, dance, spoken word and film in a large outdoor venue. The Festival has a reputation for excellence that attracts 250,000 attendees from across NYC to the Festival’s home at the Prospect Park Bandshell each summer. BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn is a multi-disciplinary arts and media non-profit, dedicated to presenting visual, performing and media arts programs that are reflective of Brooklyn’s diverse communities and to providing resources and platforms to support the creative process.

Reporting to the Development & Marketing Manager, the Seasonal Membership Coordinator will have a key role in bringing to life the relationship between our donor base and our world class performance festival through the festival’s annual “Friends of Celebrate Brooklyn” membership campaign, which attracts upwards of 500 individuals and small businesses; and the Celebrate Brooklyn Opening Night Gala which is attended by 500 business and government decision-makers, community leaders and individual donors. This is a part-time, temporary project-based position beginning March 1st and ending August 14, 2009.

Responsibilities include:

  • Gift processing of all contributions to Friends campaign and Gala including writing acknowledgement letters, vouchering income and updating gift histories in database.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly income progress reports for Friends campaign and Gala.
  • Assist with phone follow up, email communication and letter writing with all donors as-needed
  • Assist with season, Friends and Gala mailings.
  • Gather and organize all print ads for Opening Night Gala program and weekly performance programs
  • Solicit and schedule Opening Night Gala volunteers.
  • Prepare and distribute all Friends of Celebrate Brooklyn membership packets
  • Prepare the Friends Tent prior to each event.
  • Assist with check-in and greet Friends, VIPs and artists’ guests at the Friends entrance
  • Work closely with Celebrate Brooklyn photographer to catalogue seasonal images.
  • Assist with on-site distribution of brochures, programs, promotional items, mailing list info, membership info and other information.
  • Assist with collection of audience survey responses and data entry of same.
  • Provide administrative support to Celebrate Brooklyn staff as needed.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable development experience and the ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with a keen attention to detail, full of energy and able to think fast on their feet. A bachelor’s degree in a related field, some experience in development and special events, and computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Raiser’s Edge, or other database application is required. Salary approximately $2,500 per month.

Performing Arts Intern

DATES:Feb – Aug, 2009
HOURS: 1 Day per week Feb; 2 Days per week March; 3 Days per week; April thru Aug 15 (we are flexible but this is a preferred schedule)
SALARY: Stipend Available

The Overview:
The Performing Arts Intern will be a very hands on and organized self-starter. This position will take part in every aspect of making this world class performing arts festival come to life. Celebrate Brooklyn presents 25+ free performances over 9 weeks at the Prospect Park Bandshell attracting 250,000 attendees.

Areas of Responsibility:
The performing arts intern will contribute in all areas of marketing, development, sponsorship and administration.

    Marketing:

  • Implement targeted marketing strategies including email alerts, website listings and blog listings
  • Maintaining and updating Myspace, Facebook and Flickr websites
  • Assist with preparing mailings and distributing marketing materials

    Development

  • Provide support to Seasonal Membership Coordinator
  • Help to prepare membership acknowledgement letters and member ID packets
  • Provide support in researching artists, foundation guidelines, new support interests, etc.

    Special Events:

  • Provide support for fundraising efforts including cultivation events
  • Assist in preparing mailings for special events
  • Organize materials for events, participate in day-of event preparation, assist in check-in for events

    Onsite

  • Engage Celebrate Brooklyn audiences by executing and analyzing an audience survey
  • Liaise with Sponsorship Manager to help execute sponsor activation
  • Maintain integrity of “Friends Membership Tent”, make sure marketing materials are in place, assist in light clean up and organizing for member areas
  • Assist in member check-in at “Friends Tent” and placing wrist-bands members

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Marketing, Music, Arts Administration or currently pursuing degree in not-for-profit development or related field. Must be self-motivated, highly organized, computer literate and possess strong writing and interpersonal skills. Some experience in non-profit arts administration preferred. We are looking for someone full of energy who can think fast on their feet. You must be an excellent communicator who is very well organized. Knowledge of internet marketing and graphic design skills are a plus!
