Curatorial Statement

All the Numbers I Know is a visual exploration of mathematical ideas and processes. The artists on view are inspired by the patterns and systems that lend order to the chaos around us: from built urban environment to cash register receipts. The work ranges from the most complex, precise mark-making to the quirky imperfections of the handmade, touching on all elements of mathematics: secular, symbolic and sacred.

Math was never my strong suit, but the ideas have always compelled me. Talking to these artists about their work has made it clear to me that my high school algebra teacher, Mrs. Paquin was right: "Math is not only fascinating but it is ever-present in all aspects of daily life, and just where you least expect it!" — Meridith McNeal
